Transitioning Onward Promotes Success
The T.O.P.S. program is a special-education work-based learning program for students in Spring Branch ISD who are between the ages of 19-21. The program helps students with special needs develop the skills necessary for future competitive employment. T.O.P.S. develops work-related skills by extending the instructional setting into community businesses. Students not only develop necessary work habits and work skills, but also establish valuable work histories and job references.
Goals of the T.O.P.S. program:
To give students with significant disabilities the opportunity to increase their level of independence
To gain skills necessary to obtain employment in a full or part-time paid position in the community
To improve social and communication skills in community environments
To improve self-determination skills
To develop age-appropriate leisure and recreational interests
To develop friendships with other people of similar ages
To develop an awareness of mobility in the community
T.O.P.S. program job coaches: Ms. Adrienne Lee, Ms. Markie Greathouse, Ms. Teri Nguyen
