Students in the Pre Columbian Culture, Art & Architecture IIW class studied the various cultures present in the Americas before the influence of the Europeans (pre-1492 CE).

Students were exposed to several cultures such as the Puebloan, Mississippian, Tolec, Aztec, Mayan, Olmec, and Inca peoples.

Students could choose between several video documentaries to watch and were provided many books on these cultures.

Students took a tour of the Pre Columbian collection at the Museum of Fine Arts and went on a tour of the Yeargin Museum here at WAIS.

They then created a project based on what they had learned. Most students chose to create an artwork based on Pre Columbian artworks they had researched and seen.

Students used several types of reference materials for this course. Below are some of the books that were provided for reference. Along with these, students used magazines, DVD documentaries and first hand experience of Pre-Columbian artworks at the museums we visited.
